New Model for Ascension House
Flexible volunteer program in place
For several years Ascension House functioned as a backpacker hostel run by a Scandinavian volunteer team. However, with shifting demands and interests in the volunteer market, Areopagos/Tao Fong Shan were forced to close the volunteer program, as recruiting teams for full year proved increasingly difficult. After a period of remodelling, Ascension House is now preparing to receive new volunteers for shorter or longer periods, offering a variety of tasks and responsibilities - and an opportunity to engage in topics related to the work and context of Tao Fong Shan.
Flexibility and competence
- We are very pleased to be able to again recruit volunteers for Ascension House. It is a crucial element in our efforts to build future relations between Scandinavian and the East and to recruit young people to our organization, says program coordinator Kåre Eriksen.
- We have been aware that we had to come up with a concept that is a lot more flexible in terms of service time and tasks in order to recruit volunteers. The new model offers all of this. In addition, much emphasize is placed on offering solid introductions into important topics such as culture, society and religion, Christian spirituality and religious dialogue.
Ascension House will receive volunteers as of Autumn 2010. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact local supervisor Birgitte Malmkjær Nielsen in Hong Kong: malmkjaer(a)hotmail.com.
